Bs 'finally' succeed

Three wins and two losses saw our U15 B squad finish fourth in the Plate competition at Sunday's Colchester Festival. On a sunny but cold and blustery day our lads fought hard but more importantly thoroughly enjoyed a full day of competition against many teams we had not played in many years if at all.

Game one saw us drawn against Norfolk county cup finalists Wymondham RFC in an evenly matched game, the only real difference being the excellent conversion kicking of Ben, his four extra points being the difference in the score after tries from Matt and George K - Final score 14-10.
In game two we faced eventual plate winners, Sudbury ,and it would be fair to say we were outplayed from the off - Final score 0-12.
Our next opposition were the Chelmsford Development team and the boys had now worked out how to play these quickfire matches. Unanswered tries from Jacob, Matt and Dillon L along with two drop kicked conversions from Matt gave us a convincing win - Final score 19-0.
The final pool match was against Mersea Island RFC and was a very evenly contested game before the loss to injury of Matt and Freddie. With limited replacement backs, a quick reshuffle of players seemed to be keeping us in the game until Mersea Island scored in the last play of the match -Final score 0-5.

And so to the final match, the fourth place play off where we were to face Colchester Development team, on their home turf. Still without Matt and Freddie, but having had time to re-structure the squad, the lads stepped up their game once more. Second tries of tournament for George K and Dillon L and two more fantastic kicks, given the blustery conditions, from Ben gave us a well earned victory and fourth place in the Plate - Final score 14-7.

Given the all-round team effort in these matches, there is no 'star player' nomination this week, instead we would like to take this opportunity to thank our 'Star First Aiders' who were kept particularly busy today (and quickly learned to stay up-wind of the deep heat spray) but have always been on hand throughout the season to deal with all manner of injuries. So a massive thankyou to Catherine, Janine, Iain and Clarky.

All scores and finishing positions aside, it was a fantastic day of rugby and the boys all represented the club impeccably. Their conduct (on and off of the pitch), effort and attitude in games and team ethic was praised by match officials on more than one occasion.
But today was not all about the B-squad and it was fantastic to see everyone gather, parents, coaches and players to cheer on the A-team and celebrate their victory in the Cup competition final - the cheers, smiles, hugs and handshakes between the players of both squads as they came off of the pitch only serves to reinforce the firm belief that we are one age group, one squad and #oneteam!
