BSRFC U15B travelled away to Fullerians in the County Cup Shield competition in confident mood after a strong performance back in November gave them a 50-5 victory over the Watford team. From the kick-off, Frasier set the tone for the opening phases of the match with a crunching but perfectly timed tackle, allowing Stortford to take possession and control of the game and within two minutes Freddie O made a powerful run to score the opening try, duly converted by the trusty boot of Luke Foster. Three more tries followed in the next twenty minutes from Zico, Luca and Tom N two of which were successfully converted by Luke. Fullerians, however, mustered themselves toward the end of the half and after a strong phase of play ran in a well deserved first converted try demonstrating some great handling and strong offensive play.
The opening period of the second half was a lot more open and Stortford felt the pressure as Fullerians played some quality rugby, helped by a series of handling errors in defense from the Blues. Captain, George C rallied the troops and after a period of dominant rucks and mauls was on hand to find a gap in the opposition defensive line, ducking through to place the ball over the line.
Another good period of play from the home team was rewarded again with a converted try to keep them in the game and but for some last gasp tackles from Nathan and Ayo and strong rucking play from Dylan, Jules, Murray, Sam and Frasier they could have closed the gap further. Ellis Ryan, returning from back injury, left the field to well deserved applause to be replaced by Dillon Long who, within moments of his return to the pitch was able to put the game out of reach scoring a well worked try which Luke converted to bring the final score to 14-38.
The opposition initially nominated Luke as their Stortford star player but as he had already left the prize went to Zico who played well with the ball today, making good decisions and timely passes assisting in the creation of a number of tries.
Coaches special mention today goes to Odin, who despite being injured made the journey to support his team-mates and did a sterling job assisting the referee running the line and brandishing his flag with assiduity and somewhat of a flamboyant flourish!
