Not sure what they feed them but it seemed apparent from the outset that Colchester were bigger, stronger and faster. That said, Stortford contributed to their own downfall with a lacklustre first half display with far too many missed tackles allowing Colchester to dominate territory and possession. The Colchester left wing was particularly impressive scoring at least 3 of their 7 first half tries. HT 35 - 0.
Stortford started the 2nd half more positively with better commitment at the breakdown and pressure in defence which gained some territorial advantage but still lacking the cutting edge to unlock a well organised defence and Colchester retained the ability to take advantage of any Stortford errors to score 3 further tries. Late on Stortford did finally achieve a consolation score. Strong pressure on a Colchester scrum in midfield allowed Harry Clenshaw to kick a loose ball into space where it was gathered by Dominic Atkinson who stepped inside the covering defence to score. However it was fitting that the final score went to the Colchester left wing. Final score 55 - 5.
