BSRFC 16b: 19
London Scottish U16b: 27
An enthralling, tough fought game began with a break away try 5 minutes in from London Scottish put us 0-5 down, great forward pressure from BSRFC saw Max Bedford push over the line to score, converted by Will Price put us 7-5 ahead. A converted try from London Scottish on 22 minutes put us behind 7-12. Winger Jack Nicholls sprang to life after some excellent passing created space for a side step and 30 metre run with a try converted by Will Price 14-12 ahead. More pressure saw our pack drive over the line again with a disputed try held up by London Scottish. Jack Nicholls worked his magic again right on half time with another great run to make us ahead at half time 19-12.
Even though the second half saw us against a stiff breeze we spent most of the half inside the London Scottish 22. Great strength from our forwards drove over the line again only to be held up without a score. London Scottish then scored 2 tries against the run of play on 35 and 45 minutes to put them ahead 19-25. Looking for a late try to get us in front Jack Pettet made a 30 yard run along the wing with great support from Riku and Adam Nnocheri to within 3 yards of the try line, a penalty was flagged to us, the advantage played by the referee took us over the line to score but deemed a forward pass and the try disallowed. The ball eventually cleared by London Scottish and a penalty kick scored by them put the game out of reach for us with 5 minutes to go. Relentless pressure by BSRFC in the last 5 minutes saw penalty after penalty against the visitors and a penalty try was close. Finally cleared to the 22m line and then a second yellow card for Scottish. But the pressure just didn’t produce the score Stortford deserved. Making the final score 19-27.
Great rugby was played against a very physical London Scottish side. Notable performances by all the boys in particular Will Price, Jack Pettet and Ethan Warman who all went off injured.
