A mothers day trip with a WIN to take home in the end.
A division or two separating the teams but having lost to Old A's in same division in a recent friendly, we fielded a strong side and came away on top in the end. With a place in the County Shield final at stake it was Bishop’s Stortford who started the brighter with the forwards on the front foot providing plenty of possession and the visitors raced into 28-0 lead with only fifteen minutes played. From that point however Verulamians found the extra skill and determination to put pressure on the Stortford defence and thoroughly deserved their well worked try on 24 minutes. The match had now become truly competitive however it was Stortford who had the last word of the half, running in 2 further tries to make the score 40 – 7 at oranges.
The second period began in similar fashion with Stortford scoring an early try before the home side responded in kind. Verulamians competed well throughout the remainder of the half but found no answer to some strong running from the Stortford backs and it was fitting that the game was ended with Luis Obeng’s hatrick try and a final score of 69 – 12.
A strong performance by the Blues means a third appearance in the County Shield final, (on 29th April), in 4 years and a rematch with Old Albanians C/B's.
