A disappointing finish to tough game against a very strong Saracens side. Bishop's Stortford started brightly and forced all the early pressure. Colby scored early on before Saracens levelled for 7-7. The game see-sawed somewhat with Colby adding a second only for Saracens to reply again. The rest of the half saw Stortford's backs causing all sorts of problems in the Saracens defence and further tries from Kettle and Smith put the Blues into a 24-12 half time lead.
Stortford kicked off for the second period, Saracens seemed to have put their defensive side in order and were back in the game after crossing the line for 24-17. Munro then side stepped his way over to restore a 12 point advantage. Saracens soon wiped that lead out before Smith gave Stortford a slender lead to take into the closing stages. Saracens scored an unconverted try cutting the lead to 2 points, and with 2 minutes left a serious collision between Allen and the Saracens full back caused a lengthy delay. Both players recovered without serious injury, but were unable to continue. Unfortunately Stortford were just unable to hold out as Saracens nicked it in the last minute.
The game was a complete contrast of styles with all 6 Stortford tries produced from running rugby and passing combinations compared to nearly all the Saracens scores coming from prolonged short range drives from their strong pack. In the end Saracens just about contained their opponents strengths to their advantage. 2 away bonus points for the blues, the least they deserved for so much hard work. Well played lads.
