Chelmesford – 0 Bishops Stortford – 29

This game was won by an all-round solid team performance. Our defence was not breached once during any of the four 20 minute quarters we played against the Chelmesford A and B teams. We repeatedly won scrums ‘against the head’ and those we didn’t win we drove them off their own ball! Our scrum was rock solid. Most encouraging of all was the lineout – new to us this season with the ‘lifting’ – was very polished. The calls and lifts worked extremely well on our throw in and the disruption we caused on their lineout put them under significant pressure all afternoon.

This is a very encouraging start to the season…..but we will continue to address the areas that need fine tuning.... namely the contact and ruck in defence and attack for the forwards – more aggression and stronger and lower body positions required here! The Backs were hit with injuries in the 2nd and 3rd periods so we were not able to capitalise on the amount of possession.... so we will continue to work on how we attack through the back division.

I will not single out any one player because there were so many cracking performances – the support play and off-loading was fantastic to watch and at times we were far too much for Chelmesford. Simply put.... there were telling contributions from every member of the squad.

Lets continue to work together at training and in YOUR OWN TIME and we will build upon this great result.
