Two trys from Ed Goodman and 1 from MacDonald in his first start sealed a very good win - a much needed win - for the U16s. Ed Tinney had his usual solid game at 9 and indeed it was his link play with Hugo and Baker that put MacDonald in the corner for his debut try and the game's opening score. We quickly conceeded but were able to respond with a try through the backrow interplay between the improving Jones, OMalley and Tinney, captain for the day, with the marauding Goodman smashing over under the posts. Docherty sloted the extras.
Then came huge pressure from Fullerians - they did breach our line only for Barnes to hold up the ball - but apart from that we kept our shape and were able to break out thanks to the clearing kicks of Docherty. The semi final birth was sealed by another backrow move - Jones fed Docherty who timed his pass to perfection to Goodman who battered his way over in the corner.
It is wrong to single out indiviuals from a team that to a man gave so much - but Callum Sims brilliantly took 3 strikes against the head at hooker, Ed Goodman, aside from his scores played a great game, Calum Docherty looked calm and assured at 9 when he replaced the battling Tinney with 20minutes to go, Harry Jones was a colosuss for the full game smashing the gain line as well as assured in the back row moves at no8.
Well done lads - lets take that form into the league match on Sunday.
