On Sunday 15th April, BSRFC U18A welcomed Old Albanians (OA’s) for the second installment of a National Cup, League and Cup Final Trilogy.
Stortford having taken the spoils in the National Cup in the opening salvo a couple of weeks ago, the home team started this encounter the brighter of the two sides, scoring early through Number 8 Luke Bury. A couple of injuries to hooker Jaq Belton and tight head Max Bedford saw BSRFC make enforced changes. This did little to affect the home sides dominance as a superb try from Hudson Rees-Jones after some slick interplay between Thomas Walker and Tom Hitchcock saw the blues storm into a 14-0 lead. A try a piece from Connor Mak and Alfie Perring saw Stortford take a 28-0 cushion into the break.
Undeterred OA’s started the second half and scored a controversial try which galvanised the visitors into action. This belief saw OA’s as the better side, scoring three further tries to narrow Stortford’s lead to 28-24. However the home side were not done and Hitchcock split the OAs centres and raced in under the posts to give Stortford a 35-24 victory which sees them as Herts & Middlesex Division 1 Champions.
Tries – Bury, Rees-Jones, Mak, Perring, Hitchcock : Conversions – Walker 5
With two wins behind them, the trilogy is due to lay out in a last game in the County Cup Final away at Old Albanians on 29th April. Before then a home game on Sunday 22nd April (KO 13:00) when the team plays Maidenhead in the National Cup Quarter Final. This is a huge game for the Colts, please show your support and be the proverbial 16th man
