BS Colts 12, Tring 13.
A disappointing day for the Colts and the first defeat for over 3 months against an organised Tring side, but one that we would normally expect to beat quite easily. There were a few players unavailable through injury, but that is no excuse.
BS started the game well, getting the big ball carriers on the move but were faced with some excellent Tring defence, rarely missing the first tackle and following it up with some quick work at the breakdown. This created some pressure and an early penalty gave Tring a 3-0 lead. BS started to be much quicker and more physical at he breakdown and spent most of the last 20 minutes of the first half camped in the Tring '22, but more good defence meant this only yielded one try. From the restart, Tring regathered the ball and moved it quickly to score just before half-time and lead 10-5.
The second half saw BS continue to dominate possession and territory and a converted try gave us a 12-10 lead with 15 mins to go. However, handling errors and good Tring defence eventually forced a penalty to Tring, comfortably converted from 35m and a 13-12 lead. Despite spending most of the last 10 mins BS were unable to score and so lost a game that we had the talent and power to win.
Tring will now need to win their last 2 group games to progress as group winners, but BS may have the consolation of a plate semi-final as the runner-up.
