BS Colts 41, Shelford 7.
This was the first game for BS Colts in the LV cup, at the group stage, although Hitchin (the organisers) have already conceded to us as they cannot arrange a side.
BS made a strong start, with good ball-handling amongst the forwards enabling the side to make create big holes in the Shelford defence. However, an inability to move the ball in to space meant that a lot of early pressure had only yielded one try in the first 25 minutes. Much of the defensive work was good, although at times many of the forwards were slow to get back in to the defensive line.
Eventually the power of the BS team was too strong for Shelford, and two more tries before half-time saw the lead out to 19-0. A move to a more mobile front and back row started to pay dividends in the second half and 4 more tries were scored to leave BS comfortable winners, 41-7. The best try was finished by Liam Denman, who crossed in the corner after a number of phases of play had created a big overlap and, on this occasion, the ball was moved in to space for Liam to score.
The next LV cup game is at home to Tring, Sun.5th Feb - 1pm ko.
