Colts power past Wymondham despite a cloying clay pitch to complete an unbeaten 2013 and reach the quarter finals of the LV Cup

The Colts put in a powerful away performance to beat a spirited Wymondham side.

The Colts side travelled to Norfolk without a large number of regulars due to injury and holiday commitments.

The side gave Colts debuts to 3 U17's Charlie Moore, Zak Poppock and Will "Pablo" Palomba as well as playing Teddy King, Harry Barton and Sam Ainsworth.

The squad: C Harris, J Moorby, B Law, Z Coppock, M Carey, J Apperley, J Fellowes-Prynne, C Wright, W Palomba, A Wright, A Moore, H Jones, C Hugo, H Barton, E Becerra, C Moore, T King, J Albert, S Ainsworth

The game played on a very heavy pitch was played with great spirit and adventure despite the speed sapping mud. The Colts captained by Eben Becerra refused 2 kick able penalties in front of the posts and pounded the home line looking for a break through.

The first try came after 7 minutes as the Wymondham tackling finally was breached with Teddy King charging over in the left hand corner. The conversion was missed. From the kick off the Colts drove back down and after some slick handling Jordan Albert was put through to sprint 30 metres and score in the right hand corner.

From the kick off a number of phases were strung together and a kick and chase was won by Teddy King and passed out to James Apperley who jinked his way to score close to the posts. Harry Barton converted 17 nil up.

As the rain started to fall the quality of handling started to dip. After 10 minutes of dour forward mud wrestling a quality move set King free after good hands from Becerra, Barton and Moore to score under the posts. Barton converted.

Focus was lost and Wymondham drove well and scored in the corner, with the conversion missed it was 24:5 at half time.

The second half struggled to get going with handling errors and a lack of drive in the rucks. Tries then arrived with a Becerra kick through and beautiful pick up after the ball was dropped by the Wymondham backs. He glided passed the struggling defenders to score. Another similar try resulted after a great tackling pressure forced the ball loose and let the Colts charge through and score twice in quick succession taking the a core to 39:5.

With Wymondham down to 14 and their heads dropping Apperley now playing the centres pounced on a loose ball, kicked through and did a David Slivaesque back heel to Becerra to pick up and score under the posts. Barton converted and the white towel was thrown in by the opposition coach and the game finished 10 minutes early.

Well done the Colts to keep focus and drive to maintain their unbeaten run - 46 points to 5
