The U15A's won their first silverware for a few years with a terrific performance in the Colchester festival. After starting slowly and scraping through with tight wins over Woodbridge and Upminister, the boys found their form and produced a solid performance to draw with very good Felixstowe side. We back up that performance with a win over a physical Ipswich side that left us top of our group and through to the final against home favourites Colchester.
With a sizeable crowd staying back to watch the final, and the majority of neutrals cheering on our boys it felt more like our home game! The lads responded to the support and produced a worthy performance of fast attacking rugby backed up by solid defensive play. We opened the scoring when Fabian crossed for a try which he duly converted. We were the dominant side and seemed to be coasting to victory when Colchester broke our line and scored under the post...over went the conversion and we were all level. With seconds to go we were heading for extra time when Colchester conceded a penalty at the ruck just inside their own half. With the clock ticking the Stortford forwards decided we should go for the posts...up stepped Fabian, and with a strong wind circling the pitch our full back calmly slotted the ball home from over 50 yards. A fantastic kick under pressure...and the trophy was ours. We finished the day unbeaten and played some superb rugby, demonstrating a growing confidence and ability to out play quality sides.
