Despite the result, Stortford provided a much improved display following last weeks heavy loss. Some changes to personnel produced a battling performance with every player committing to the cause. Ruislip opened the scoring when they surprisingly opted to go for the kick when awarded a penalty in front of the posts, before Stortford scored the first try. A kick and chase from Ben, opened up the Ruislip back field and in the ensuing chaos Cuan was able to gather the ball and drive over the line. Fabian added the conversion giving us a 7-3 lead.
Ruislip were quick to respond and exerted a sustained period of pressure. Stortford's indiscipline lead to a succession of penalties and some loose chat advanced Ruislip 10 yards closer to the line. Eventually the pressure took its toll and the home side scored their first try. A tight half concluded with a slightly controversial try for the maroons, when their winger grounded following what appeared to be a forward pass giving the home side a 17-7 lead at the break.
Stortford responded well to a stern half time talk, with Calan catching a clearance kick from the Ruislip fullback and picking a delightful line through the defense, outpacing the last man and crossing for a superb individual try under the posts. Fabian added the extras to close the gap to just three points. Slack defending and more indiscipline led to another score for Ruislip and with our legs clearly tiring, the home side added a late score to close out the game with a slightly flattering scoreline.
The Stortford pack battled hard all match, rucking and tackling a physically strong Ruislip side. Man of the Match was Tom G, who produced another outstand defensive performance.
