Record High Scores for Stortford

You know all is coming together when you have so many tries scored you can't name all the players that scored them, but we know who you are and well done!

Last Sunday we entertained both Cheshunt and Stevenage at home. We split into 2 mixed teams as was requested by Cheshunt, which worked very well.
On pitch 1, Stortford played Cheshunt. Playing up hill Stortford struggled in the scrums with the heavier Cheshunt team eventually having the advantage all of the match. At half time Stortford 7, Cheshunt 21. In the second half with the advantage of the gradient, Stortford backs punished Cheshunt defence. Full time Stortford 35, Cheshunt 35.
On Pitch 2, Stortford played Stevenage. No problems in the scrum on this game with a heavy defeat for Stevenage. Final score Stortford 47, Stevenage 7.
All swap for the second games;
Pitch 1, Stortford played Stevenage. By this time Stevenage needed to have their heads up after their first defeat, they had some heavy players and could have still posed a threat, unfortunately for them after the first 5 minutes Stortford ran in some quick tries and Stevenage heads dropped and the flood gates opened. The referee helped were he could even disallowing tries for crossing imaginary dead ball lines (which did not do his popularity much good!). Final score Stortford 59, Stevenage 12.
Pitch 2, Stortford played Cheshunt. This Stortford side had the stronger scrum and had no problems with the heavier Cheshunt pack. They won ball for the backs to score, also putting in tries for themselves. Final score Stortford 47, Cheshunt 14.
Total for the day, Stortford 188, Cheshunt & Stevenage 68. (I think that’s about correct)

All sounds very flattering, a word of warning before we break out the Champagne, we will be playing much harder opponents with the festival season approaching. Some very lazy tackling going on last Sunday which we will need to sort out before we are punished for them.
