At Shelford we had 14 players and decided to rotate a few players to see if different playing positions would suit different players, with the emphasis on team play.
Stortford started like a steam train, camped out in the Shelford half. Shelford had a breakaway try, but could not kick the conversion. Jaq Belton powered over for a Stortford Try, converted by Will Price. Shelford came back with another unconverted try. Half time score Shelford 10 Stortford 7. At the start of the second half Shelford scored a try and started to convert them. A great team effort gave Stortford a try with too many hands and body’s for me to know who scored it. Sam Tatchell scored a well deserved try converted by Harry Collins. As the second half wore on Stortford heads slowly dropped. Shelford had the upper hand and Stortford were not in the right frame of mind. Final score 38 to 21
In the second game Freddy Thomas tried single handed to raise the team with a great try, followed by another great team effort for a second try. Final score Shelford 7 Stortford 14
Player of the day for me was Ollie Allport, closing down every kick with great speed left the opposition with little space to move. Some great runs with the ball and unlucky to have a try held up off the ground.
As for people playing out of their normal position. The combination of Connor and James at second row worked very well with 2 ferrets in every ruck. Freddy at centre gave added bulk, he can take a tackle and knows when he needs to pass.
