A good day of rugby was enjoyed by all down at a very sunny Blackheath. Several players were not available this weekend so the B team was boosted by players from our development squad plus we had to play the old 7 a-side game which some of them were not used to. Despite the odds being stacked against us the team put in a spirited performance led by the more experienced players Alex Rickard, Matthew Brender and George Knight who applied pressure to the opposition in both defense and with the ball in hand. It was a steep learning curve for others but they all progressed in some way throughout the day with notably Seth Hawkins learning that being in support often gets him the ball to run with but you need to tag and defend too also Tom Naylor rediscovered his tagging abilities and defensive quality as the day progressed. The team got better game by game and were unlucky to lose their last match which swung too and fro before the referee blew the final whistle with the opposition winning by the tightest of margins. Oliver Husk, Caspar Hadley, Max Williams and JP Dunphy benefited from the experience and challenge and will have learnt some great lessons to help boost their future performances.
