A fine win on a fine day........

Armed with 21 players we visited Old Grammarians on a bright sunny day with the thoughts of glorious victory in our minds. All present and correct we arrived to be told that they only had 11 men which was of course of great disappointment to our young thrusting bucks like Dave Walker and Rob Neal. Onwards however was the shout from the team and after a little negotiation we agreed that they could have 4 of our players. Thanks go to Gideon, Chris Evans, Dan wells and Chris Collings. You all played far too well for the opposition and there will be retribution when fines have been administered at the end of season gentlemen; I can assure you of that!

Anyway swiftly moving on to the match. The first half had everything, the sublime: Tubsy nimbly stepping through a host of opposition players to set down under the posts; the ridiculous: me spotting a gap and running through it for a change with the pace of a wounded snail. One would have thought it was easier to score and take the points but no, not me, I wanted to go under the posts and my hopes were dashed as a foetus of a scrum half ran onto the pitch and scythed me down mid gallop, the opportunity and my pride gone in an instance. The comical, Richard Clarke, prop, decided to throw a miss pass, prop, that ended up, prop, going behind their three quarters from which he was duly awarded the wally of the game. Graeme Pearman charging over the line like a rampaging bull, it had everything.

The second half was a slightly more controlled affair with 2 tries coming from Peter Richardson, showing pace and power as well as showing us all how tight he is by not getting three and thus having to buy a jug, Cam Stockdale who ran pretty much the length of the pitch to score a sensational try and then crawl his way back. 3 from me as I seized the opportunity to run past some big fat props and showed what astounding pace I have against 45 year old overweight men, I do wish they would stop chasing me.
The final score was 44 – 7 and we happily took the bonus point. Peter Richardson won the man of the match for an outstanding performance. On a serious note, well done guys and it’s great to have that winning feeling back in our bellies.
Next week we are home to Saracens Amateurs.
