Match report BSRFC 4th Team Vs Borehamwood 15th October

Facing an unbeaten Borehamwood team on Saturday at Silver Leyes was always going to be a difficult proposition. The game started with the home team on top, applying pressure round the fringes and driving their way into the opposition 22. The pressure soon told when after 8 minutes Stortford won a penalty which they opted to kick. The ball shaved the outside of the post with Stortford just missing out on the 3 points. This proved to be the only real opportunity for Stortford to come away with any points from the first half as Borehamwood started to dominate the breakdown which resulted in quick turnover ball that meant the Stortford defence was disorganised creating space all over the pitch. They exploited this space ruthlessly and ran a succession of tries in as Stortford struggled with their pace and power.

The half time whistle went and Stortford used the opportunity to reorganise themselves. A much better second half saw Stortford compete at the breakdowns a lot more effectively and led to a well deserved try when Gareth Crockett powered over the try line from 15 yards out after a host of penalties were given away by the opposition. As Stortford took more risks more and more space opened up allowing Borehamwood to take advantage of some quick ball seeing them out score Stortford 3 tries to one in the second 40 minutes.

A very difficult game against a very strong opposition saw Stortford lose 42 points to 7.

Everybody gave their best and there were some stand out performances, none more so than Fergus Payne who won the man of the match award. A special mention for the 3rd team players who played for us on their weekend off and to Jerry who played prop when we were desperate, even though he was suffering badly from a bout of flu that he caught earlier on in the week.
I think that on that performance Borehamwood are favourites to win this League and should do so at a canter.
