The 4's travelled to West Hampstead yesterday with a very strong squad of 19 players which was fortunate as UCSOB only had 10 players!

The match was duly forfeited with BSRFC awarded the points and we agreed to loan them our subs and play a friendly. A massive thanks to Steve Drew, Allen Griffiths, Steve Smith and Adam Bar for making up the shortfall at UCSOB and for making a match of it!
UCSOB retained the ball well... for the first 10 mins of the game and kept us under pressure around our 22 and the whole team worked hard to defend and keep them out. We eventually got our hands on the ball and the forwards made good metres before spreading it wide to Taylor Bovington
who showed great pace on the wing and went over for our first try. This established the pattern for the next 20 mins or so with BSRFC increasingly on top and Ryan Griffiths shrugging off 3 or 4 UCSOB players to score in the corner.
As we approached half time UCSOB put some decent phases together and looked like scoring a try of their own but a fantastic tackle from Gilo in our own in goal area caused the UCSOB winger to spill the ball when he looked certain to score and Ryan Griffiths made an equally important tackle getting underneath the ball in our in goal area to deny UCSOB another possible try.
The intensity of our defence gave the whole team a lift and as we went into the second half Stortford ramped up the pressure and the tries started to flow.
Our defence did leak a try toward the end of the game but it was a very dominant performance by Stortford with tries from James Robin Copper, Diddy Byatt, Andy Simpson, Taylor Bovington, and a hatrick from Ryan Griffiths. Taylor also did a great job with the boot kicking 3 of the conversions from wide angles.
Man of the match was Ryan Griffiths for very strong attack and defensive play for the full 80 mins (and for biting his lip when he was disallowed a 4th try). Dick of the day was Josh Prime for the heinous crime of forgetting he is a prop and fly hacking the ball into space but not having the pace to follow it up and then, in the final play of the game, finding himself in the clear, and calling for the ball when several metres in front of the ball carrier and then fumbling it anyway
A terrific performance from everybody involved yesterday (including our subs) and we should all be proud of the result and the manner in which we played the game.
Next week....... Home to Verulamians.
