A cold, wet and dark triumph

It was almost sleeting on Saturday and both teams were fired up for a competitive game!
BSRFC were 9 games unbeaten, but they knew that UCSOBs were capable of destroying this record as they had beaten some decent opposition so far this season.
The whistle blew and both teams knew that a tough game was afoot. BSRFC held on to possession for at least 10 minutes and were encamped in the UCSOB's half, but through some dominating rucking, UCSOB put BSRFC under threat for what looked like it could be the first score of the match. However a great turnover ball, won by skipper MacKenzie saw the blistering BSRFC backs mount an unstoppable attack. Leeks, who touched the ball at least 4 times in a burst for the opposition line broke through 2 tackles and scored the first try for BSRFC (conv Dummer) just before 15 minutes were on the clock. BSRFC took away some belief from the try and immediately mounted another attack. Brunner (8) was driven over the line by the pack less than a minute later. BSRFC with 2 tries under their belt were growing in confidence and straight from the kick-off, scrum-half Dummer made something out of nothing and side stepped his way for BSRFC's third in just a few minutes (conv Dummer). UCSOB were not at all happy and in response split their pack at the kick-off. They foiled their way through the BSRFC defence and put the full-back under a 3:1 pressure. The wet conditions were tough for both teams, but a tragic slip by BSRFC saw UCSOB go over the line to get their first try.
Half time - 19-5
After a tough talking to at half-time BSRFC knew that they could keep the opposition at bay and as such, dominated the second half. Leeks found himself in space and managed to touch the ball down (conv Read). BSRFC knew that they game was there for the winning and managed to maintain possession in the terrible conditions. Ten minutes later, with every forward having a hand in the making, Read touched down another try.

The second half possession sealed the win for BSRFC and despite some great countering, UCSOB were unable to score again.

Final score: 31-5

Both teams applauded each other for a well spirited (and fierce at times!) game and everyone applauded the referee (Tony Lynch) for such a sterling and fair performance in tough conditions!

BSRFC 3s - now 10 games unbeaten!
