The Mitres were in high spirits after a comfortable 36 – 7 win against the Harlow Rams the previous week. This confidence could be seen in the warm up with everyone switched on and run-throughs going smoothly.
However after a rocky start from wonder boy Ash Boyle with a kick off straight into touch, we found ourselves on the back foot and under pressure conceding 5 points after 5 minutes. In the usual Mitres spirit, this seemed to wake us all up and soon with a try from old boy Mikey Roberts on the wing we found our rhythm. A strong pack making good carries despite the physicality of the Normans defence accompanied by a fast and confident back line saw us rack up another three tries from Steve Hearn, Mikey and wiz kid Nick Lahey before conceding 5 points on the half time whistle.
The second half proved to be a well-matched physical battle with break down after break down testing Dante Dragans new found skills as a second row. Despite this Dante managed to carry the ball over the line in the 64th minute. The rest of the half saw Richmond pick up the pace to try and claw back enough points, but with a strong defensive line and a hunger to take a second W at home in consecutive weeks we managed to hold off the Normans attempts. Conceding one try in the 80th minute to bring the match to a close 25-22 and securing our place in the top three of the league going into Christmas.
Dick of the day had to go the Ash Boyle for his deflating kick off. Man of the match was slightly harder to decide with a good team effort all round and everyone pulling their weight, but Zac took the crown with a faultless performance.
