Stortford return to winning ways in convincing fashion and maintain their outstanding bonus point-winning record.

Stortford once again started slowly and found themselves 3 points down after 5 minutes, when visiting fullback, Ashley Hockings converted a penalty for offside. With a strong edge at the set piece, though, Stortford forced their way back into the game and, despite losing second row, Chris Aldam to injury after only 9 minutes, took a four point lead a minute later via a try to scrumhalf, Arran Mahoney, who rounded off excellent work by Nick Hankin and Tom Coleman to give his skipper an easy conversion. Straight from the restart, the home side were back on the offensive and Coleman extended their lead by three after 12 minutes, when the visitors were themselves penalised for offside. An identical offence by Stortford only 3 minutes later allowed Hockings to narrow the gap again to 4 points. The home team, though proceeded to dominate the rest of the half and, with Matt Tomlinson on in Aldam's place in the second row, continued in particular to exert pressure on the Redruth scrum. This produced a penalty try after 22 minutes, with Coleman's conversion stretching the lead to 11 points. With the side now starting to show some of the fluent, fifteen-man rugby, which has become their trademark, the visitors scarcely got a look-in and it was winger, Jimmy Rea, getting back to fitness after a long injury lay-off who capitalised with two excellent tries on 33 and 35 minutes. Coleman manged to convert both - the second from right on the touchline - to take his side into the break 31-6 ahead.

The second half started with noticeably less intensity, allowing Redruth to work their way back into the game, culminating in a converted try after14 minutes after a series of driving mauls in the Stortford 22. This seemed to shake the home side back to their senses for a while, which produced two further converted tries after 23 and 26 minutes, with man of the match, Nick Hankin featuring prominently in the build-up to both, though both were scored by the pack. The first was scored by Steve Ball, off the back of a strong, driving maul and the second came from a second penalty try, as Stortford's powerful 8 drove for the line. Once again, though the team seemed to take its foot off the pedal and invited Redruth back into the game with some sloppy breakdown play, resulting in turnovers. The visitors took the opportunity to pile some pressure on their opposition and this told after 34 minutes, when Coleman was yellow-carded for killing the ball at a ruck on his own line. Within a minute, Redruth had taken full advantage, scoring another converted try after a series of driving mauls. The last few minutes of the game became increasingly fractious and things finally boiled over with only a minute or two left to go, with the visitor's replacement prop being shown a red card for foul play.

Overall, a much improved performance from Stortford this week, but the side will need to apply themselves for the full 80 minutes next week in the local derby at Shelford, who are desperate for points to move themselves away from the relegation battle.
