Two closely-matched sides fight a losing battle against the elements and Moseley just edge the war of attrition.

In wet and windy conditions, both sides did their best to play running rugby in this match sponsored by major supporters and Club printers, PROCO, but the game, almost inevitably descended for long periods into an arm -wrestle between two strong and determined packs with defences, for the most part on top. In fact, it was probably the only piece of incisive rugby in the whole match that produced the first score for Stortford after 15 minutes, when George Cullen put in a well-judged chip kick in midfield, which Sam Winter seized on to drive into the heart of Moseley's defence before handing off to Nick Hankin, who was able just to outpace the cover to touch down under the posts. Cullen's conversion took his side 7 points ahead, but the gap was reduced to 2 within three minutes, when visiting hooker, Ryan Roach drove over form the back of a driving maul close to the Stortford line, after Moseley decisively won a kicking duel through a tremendous leap and catch from flyhalf, Hollingsworth off his own hanging kick. Stortford had the better of the rest of the half, but without seriously threatening the visitors' line. They had to content themselves, therefore with a long Cullen penalty after31 minutes, after Moseley were penalised at a breakdown.

A five point lead with the elements against Stortford in the second half looked vulnerable but they started the second period strongly and had the better of the first quarter of an hour. Unfortunately, at that stage one of a number of botched lineouts well inside the Moseley half proved to be very costly, as the visitors swept onto the attack and a penalty at a breakdown close to halfway was kicked to touch. Moseley's well-drilled pack did the rest, winning their ball cleanly and driving a maul over the line with apparent ease for Ciaran Moore to touch down. A very good conversion by Hollingsworth took his side into the lead. Stortford continued to give as good as they got, but without really threatening another breakthrough, despite the considerable impact made by Johnny Neville after he was brought on in the centre after 63 minutes. It was a penalty awarded against the home side at a scrum that produced the only other score, with Hollingsworth adding three relatively easy points after 71 minutes. This was only after a difficult Cullen penalty shot had rebounded from a post after a Moseley breakdown offence, which further demonstrated the fine margins by which this tight match was decided. Stortford ended the game with possibly their best spell of possession rugby, going through multiple phases involving forwards and backs and a couple of times were foiled only by fingertip tackles. In the end, though, the conditions and opposing defence won out and the home side had to settle for a losing bonus point.
