Old Men Grooving

We thought we would have a depleted squad due to half term and holidays but we had good numbers. We played on a full size TOUCH pitch, which was intimidating at the start ‘I can’t run that far…’, ‘I can’t see the far end…’

We started with a challenging cone game warm up which let’s face it we didn’t master despite simplifying it considerably, none of us are ever going to enter as contestants on The Cube. Maybe more back to basic skills next week.

Welcome to Will Baxter and Richard Warbouys both new to the touch group although both not new to touch, their experience showed right from the start.

Every week we report improvement in pace, skills & fitness and this week was no exception. Yes our handling skills do need improvement – especially at speed and at times we still play as individuals but overall week on week we are improving.

Move of the night probably goes to the Reds who near the end managed to move the ball back and forward along the line, unfortunately the final pass let them down. Touch of the night goes to Richard Warbouys who leapt like a panther covering great ground to get a finger-tip try saving touch.

Wally of the night was actually decided in the first minute of the very first game, Richard Grainger who is becoming a regular, ran a great line, took the ball at pace and was in plenty of space. It was one of those ‘no point chasing him, he’s definitely through’ so no one did, only for Richard to somehow trip over himself, fall and knock the ball forward, he must have been taking lessons from Adam. He did appear from the long grass with a smile on his face happy in the knowledge that for the rest of the night no one would top his Wally moment. Well done Richard.
