It is with sadness that we learnt that earlier this week our original Honorary Life Member - Mike Beardwood passed away.

Mike was made our first ever Honorary Life Member in recognition of his considerable efforts overseeing the planning financing and building of a new clubhouse to replace the original 'two huts' in 1971

He had joined the club many years earlier in 1963 and is remembered as a 'big strong fellow' who played 2nd Row and No.8 for our 1st XV

He made his debut for us in a 9-6 victory over Tabard on on 21 September 1963 & was an ever present for us for the next 7 seasons.

The highlight of his playing career came in April 1965 when he was one of the 'Magnificent 7' who against all the odds won the Hertfordshire 7's beating Old Hertfordians 8-6 in the final at Radlett. This was the first time we had won the trophy.

Off the pitch Mikes ability to perform seemingly every 'traditional rugby song' ever written was legendary and along with Bob Green was always at the centre of the after match social fun, win or lose, home or away.

He made an indelible imprint on the history of our club both on and off the pitch was hugely popular and a dear friend to so many.

Our condolences go to his wife Mary, son Mark and daughter Julie

His funeral is being held on Monday 24th Jan at 11am Octagon Chapel, Colgate, Norwich
