It seems like a long time ago that back in October our B-Team travelled to Cheshunt to play their 'development' team that was struggling for numbers, I think that todays performance shows how much development they have made as a squad. Within 2 minutes of the start Cheshunt had crossed the try line only to have the try disallowed due to over enthusiastic efforts from the would be scorer to run behind the posts, crossing the deadball line as he did so. Stortford's reprieve did not last long however as Cheshunt went on to score four tries adding two conversions in the next 20 minutes to take a 24 point lead. As half time neared, Stortford briefly woke up and showed that when ball carriers get their heads down and attack with aggression and intent they could breakthrough a strong Cheshunt defensive line. Nathan Allerton (Captain) and Odin Baker involved in getting the ball into a position for Zico Manchee to drive over for a try to finish the half with a score on the board.
The second half followed a very similar pattern, three more tries converted by a bouyant Cheshunt saw them stretch their lead to 45-5 before Stortford really got into their stride and finished much more positively, Zico powering over for his second try, but too little too late!
Special mention from the coaches today goes to Odin, filling in to play in three different positions and bringing effort, controlled aggression and determination in his game. Zico was awarded the oppositions choice of 'player of the match' whilst our lads selected Cheshunt's mini Faf de Klerk lookalike scrum half who had made a nuisance of himself - as he should - throughout the game. However, the biggest cheer of the morning was for the arrival in the bar of Stortford's sharp dressed man, Frasier Morrison-Barber, immaculately turned out in a blazer, waistcoat, pink shirt and tie that the late legend Doddie Weir would have been proud to wear.
This one is behind us lads...we go again next week!
