Stortford backed up their comfortable opening win with a dominant performance against a big, powerful Ipswich side. After absorbing some early pressure Stortford opened the scoring when Carter crossed under the posts, however a defensive error allowed Ipswich to strike back moments later. A line break from Zico saw the prop skip clear to score before a trademark pitch-length sprint from Fabian stretched our lead further. The visitors battled on and were rewarded with a try in the final minute to close the half at 19-10.
Stortford came out strong in the second half with two further tries from Zico and Carter before Ipswich hit back with the final score of the game. It was a fine team performance from the boys in blue with every player stepping up. Relentless rucking from Jules and Andrei, solid carries from George, Cuan and Billy and a powerful front row performance from the big lads saw our pack more than match a physically larger group from Suffolk. In the backs Nathan played admirably when asked to fill in out of position and Sam continued his impressive return to the club. Player of the Match was duly awarded to Carter who's controlling performance at fly-half once more demonstrated his growing maturity and rugby intelligence.
Well done to all the lads, and thank you to Ipswich for making the long trip to play a tough game of rugby and providing an excellent advert for youth rugby.
