After a wet morning of paint balling it was back to the club and sunshine for our annual end of season awards, this year generously supported by Julie and Jonny Smith from Great Garnetts, who provided a fantastic hog roast to feed our masses.
As we closed the door on a season that has seen all of our squad develop as rugby players and as a team, we were joined by Chairman of Youth Rugby Jim Tanfield to recognise some individual performances. Dillon Long picked up the B team player of the year, with Fabian Dowell collecting the A team award. Our most improved player awards went to Ali Ozturk and Tom Graham for their committed performances across the season.
Our most prized trophy, the Lee Scott Award, presented in honour of our great friend and former coach, who we sadly lost 4 years ago, went to Tom Neale. This award recognised a player who exemplifies the values of rugby and fraternity that Lee held dearly, and Tom was the unanimous choice of the panel this season.
We also recognised the contribution of our wider group, with special thanks to Annabel Sawyer for her organisational support, Catherine Neale and Janine Swales for providing excellent medical support on match days and training, and of course our very own Neil Clark for his performances from behind the scenes!
Although a lot falls upon our coaches, successful seasons like this are not possible without the ongoing support from our wider group of parents and supporters. We have only two years left in youth rugby so we call on everyone to get involved and support the team - if there is anything you can offer now is the time!
Finally, on behalf of all of the coaches, I'd like to thank everyone for the very generous gifts! We have been on quite a journey in this age group but the reward is seeing the little boys with tag belts turn into the fine young men they are becoming - that is reward enough for us, but we thank you for your generosity.
On behalf of everyone at BSRFC, have a great summer and we'll see you all back at training in September!
Best wishes
Rob, Mark, Ben, Richard and Iain.
