A great afternoon, in the sun and wind, (broke another Gazebo), over with our friends at Colchester, particular thanks to Ross Cowie, (Chairman of Youth Rugby), for extending an invite to us, to play some of the strongest teams from Suffolk, Norfolk, Kent, Essex and Cambridge.
We took a holiday Baa Baa's U14 Squad of primarily A's but also some of our stronger B's including Dutta, Simpson and Sanchez who all equipped themselves very well on the day and gained some valuable experience ahead of the seasons close and next years tougher challenges up in Division 4 of their regular Herts & Middlesex League.
We played 6 games overall, of 15 minutes and came away with wins over Colchester, Woodbridge and North Walsham before progressing to the Semi Finals and a hard fought 19 - 5 victory over Diss. There was not much in it vs Wymondham, a couple of marginal calls, odd knock-on, many offsides and combative but friendly game saw us narrowly defeated 15 - 5 in the "John Motum" Cup Final, (allowing them revenge for our previous victory over them, in the regular match last April, when Touring in U13's).
A treat for the U14 Coaches / Touchline Parents team, with 107 points scored, only 35 against, 17 tries, from 8 of our young players, (Mehmet, Longaretti, Oakey, Parry, Stevenson, Skingsley, Barnett and Allen), and 22 points from the new boots of Mitchell.
Great preparation for many of our Division 1 winning A's, (no serious injuries), ahead of the HERTS County Cup Final vs Old Albanians, on the 24th April.
