A Hard Fought DRAW - Just Enough !

An exciting watch for the touchline team but last minute illness and injury list saw just 17 boys travel AWAY again to Letchworth, although thankfully the pitch was in much better condition.

A much improved performance from Letchworth from our last trip over, saw them take an early lead with a well worked, unconverted try and the importance of the HERTS Quarter Final fixture to our hosts was obvious, with them shortly afterwards trying to also secure another 3 points from a penalty kick, (fortunately although wind assisted, flew wide).

Once we got out of our own half and strung together a few more phases of play, our strong defence finally turned to attack and some slick handling within our backs eventually created enough space for our supporting forwards and Longaretti to showcase his pace / get round the defences wing to score our first points, shortly followed by a conversion from Mitchell. The lead was short-lived though with an injury to Elvin requiring a re-jig of our forwards and a lot of BSRFC pressure unfortunately came undone with turn-over ball seeing Letchworth take full advantage and opportunistically, run in a try from half-way !

There was no let up from either side in the second half, very attacking play saw mistakes from both teams within a combative 20 minutes, numerous scrums and line-outs but eventually Parry settled the nerves with a try in the far corner, after multiple phases finally created a chink in Letchworth's excellent defence.

Lots to work on this week but an honourable DRAW was just enough to see us through to the Semi Finals next month, (on the AWAY rule, given all square on both tries and conversions).
