In recent months the Hurricanes have been playing some decent rugby, but have not been getting the results their performances have deserved. What a way to put that run of results to bed. Our first match against OA’s was an absolute thriller, beating very strong opposition by 1 try to win 7-6. A turnover on the last play against gave Chelmsford a 7-6 win against us, but we were outplayed in our third match, hanging on to lose 7-5 against Colchester. The fourth match saw the real Hurricanes come back out to play! Although 5-3 down at half time, due to a couple of mistakes, the boys came out in the second half, like men poccessed! A fantastic 5 minutes of beautiful rugby resulted in a 7-5 win aginst Westcliff. A game against Upminster in the Vase Final, was too much, after the previous match and some interesting decisions going against us didn’t help, but Upminster deserved their win to take the trophy.
The Typhoons were invited to the Festival and were the only C Team to be asked. However there was absolutely no suggestion that they were anyway going to be afraid of any opposition. In fact they did the exact opposite. Losing their first match to the tournament favourites, Blackheath, only inspired them more. Fantastic wins aginst Upminster (5-4), Saffron Walden (5-2) and Southend (6-2) got them to second in their pool and a Plate Final against Colchester. Leading all the way through, they conceded on the last play to draw 3-3, leaving them joint title holders wth Colchester. An absolutely fabulous end to a fantastic day for the team.
The day’s rugby showed what a depth of quality players we have in our team and everyone should be proud of their performances.
