Drawn into pool B which had a few disruptions from teams not attending, the tornadoes had their first outing of the season at the Upminster A’s festival. We played 4 matches in the pool and a final with the winners of pool A with the following results:
BSRFC - 6 Wanstead – 0
BSRFC – 3 Medway – 0
BSRFC – 7 Stanford – 1
BSRFC – 3 Medway – 1
BSRFC – 1 Upminster - 3
Tries were scored by nearly all the team but what was great to see that every try was done as a team effort. A good measure of this was the fact that the tornadoes were not turned over once throughout the whole festival because of being tagged 7 times. The whole team put what can only be described as an outstanding effort into their attack play which showed in several matches.
The defence play the tornadoes put out stole the show which resulted in them only conceding 5 tries throughout the entire festival. Even when faced with other teams performing switches and similar quick attacking play the line held strong. Numerous times the team turned over the ball through the 7 tag rule and on several occasions the opposition was driven back deep into their own half whilst trying to attack.
Overall it was a fantastic day out and start to the season with coaches and parents alike feeling a tremendous amount of pride and satisfaction in the teamwork, discipline, supporting and overall playing displayed by the whole team which resulted in the Tornadoes coming in a strong 2nd place out of ten other teams.
