Mothers Day saw the U7s A team travelling to Richmond for the Richmond Minis Rugby Festival. It was an excellent ground and the boys were given the opportunity to play on much larger pitches than at the previous week’s festivals.
We played in a pool of five teams and ended the day in third position.
We got off to a terrific start with the team working well together to achieve a 2-1 victory over Beaconsfield, with Oscar Wilson and Alex Payling bringing home the tries.
However, the second match saw us pitched against Richmond. A strong team who went on to win the pool, they outpaced us with four tries to our two.
Next up came a draw against Amersham and Chiltern (2-2), with the festival ending for us with a 4-6 loss to Effingham and Leatherhead.
The boys each took home a bronze medal and the team was also awarded the Festival’s overall “Fair play” trophy in recognition of our sportsmanship when the ref didn’t hear the linesman call our player going out of touch at the half way line and a try was subsequently disallowed.
