On Sunday 11th March two mixed BC sides headed over to the Southend RFC Minis Festival.
In Pool A Bishop’s Stortford started the day with a close result against Blackheath C, ending the match 4-3 down. The next match saw them face Chelmsford, coming out on top with three tries to Chelmsford’s one. Next they took on the much-feared OAs, who lived up to their reputation taking a 6-3 victory over our side. The final two matches pitched Stortford against the home Southend team (ending 4-2 down) and Galley Wood School, a close contest with Stortford just outpaced in a 5-4 result. In Pool B Bishop’s Stortford C faced a tough opponent in locals Westcliff, ending the match 5-3 down. However, they turned things around in their second match to see off Saffron Walden 3-2. Next came two draws, against a strong Blackheath team (4-4), and in a fast-moving match against Upminster (5-5). A victory over home team Southend (5-4) followed to earn them a place in the play-off for fourth place. This pitched them against Southend C. Stortford’s strong defence came to a fore in this match with the local team really struggling at times to progress across the pitch. The final score saw Stortford take the Vase with four tries to Southend’s three. The trophy was presented to the team by London Wasps’ Ross Filipo.
