Our first season has finally kicked off and at Cheshunt, on Sunday, we were able to put into practice all the training and drills we have been trying to perfect for the last year.
Whilst it was unfortunate that Cheshunt were missing a number of their players, they were still able to provide a good test for our first matches. Though weakened by not having a full squad, they had a number of very good players, who showed us what the quality of the opposition is likely to be over the coming season.
The two Bishops Stortford teams, the Bishops and the Stags, both played some fantastic rugby. There were some superb individual performances, the support play was magnificent, but what I felt was the best part of our performance was the defence. I saw every one of our players making vital tags and we never gave up trying. It doesn’t matter how many tries we score, we must be able to defend and we showed just how much we have learnt in all those games of Bulldog! However, the tries we scored were a mixture of very good individual efforts and some outstanding support play. Every time one of our players made a break there was always someone there to support him. Most of our tries were in fact scored by a supporting player, there when needed, waiting to take the pass, at every attack we made. Overall I felt it was an outstanding performance!
