Despite the cold wind and the occasional heavy shower, the children played really well at Southend today. We were all impressed with the fact the children seemed so committed and engaged during their games. There was an hour between each game, but the morale remained high in the Bishops Stortford camp (which really was pitched between the large club tents of other teams and consisted of a few large golf umbrellas and a pile of boot bags).
Although the teams played in different pools, we both played matches against Southend, Braintree, Bancroft and Colchester. Both teams lost only 1 of their 4 games and there were a lot of tries scored! We received positive comments from a few of the other coaches about our players' attitude and their team spirit.
Both teams just failed to make the plate and bowl play-offs. That didn't take anything away from their performance or enjoyment. Must be said, despite being well entertained by the children all morning, I think the parents were relieved....especially as the heavy rain started just as we were leaving!
Thank you to parents and coaches, it was a good event and good friendly atmosphere all round.
