The ref's decision was reportedly taken deliberately on the basis of "fairness". given that Stortford had had the benefit of the elements for the first half and an early finish would have deprived the home side of an equal benefit from the wind.
Fair enough reasoning, but, given that kick-off was delayed until 2.45 because of the failure ahead of the scheduled start-time of 2.30 to identify the availability of a pitch not waterlogged(as the first team pitch was)at the far end of the field, it was clear to all that darkness would have descended well before 4.15 (90 minutes from kick-off), let alone the likely finishing time, allowing for any injury breaks. So why, if a result over less than the scheduled 80 minutes' playing time was deemed to be unfair, was the game even started is a question players injured in a fruitless venture might well ask.
