On the basis of least said, soonest mended, this could be the shortest match report on record.
Worthing started with a bang, encouraged by a surprisingly lacklustre first half from the visitors who, despite having an edge at the scrums and repeated penalties in their favour, simply couldn't get out of first gear. Without going into the gory details, Worthing were gifted a first try under the posts by a series of Stortford errors after 7 minutes. The visitors managed to register 3 points after 16 minutes from one of the series of penalties but, 4 minutes later were another 5 points behind after a 50:50 decision as to whether a Worthing player had been held up went in the home side's favour. Eventually, Stortford managed a try of their own from a driving maul, but the conversion attempt went just wide and the half ended at 15-8 - a scoreline which flattered Stortford.
The second half saw a slightly more robust Stortford performance, with the scrums now almost all going their way, resulting in a stream of penalties, but no further sanction. The next three scores, nevertheless went to the home side via a penalty and two converted tries - the second of which actually came from some excellent interplay from the Worthing backs - albeit off a lucky kick from their scrumhalf, whose skewed effort, as he was being tackled looped up into the arms of his tall left winger, who made thirty yards before finding strong support inside, which was found with some smart passing. Stortford then producesd a rare moment of skill of their own, with Nick Hankin standing up his opposite number on the wing, before stepping inside and then rounding the last defender for a converted try.
