The visitors got off to a fast start, capitalising on what appeared to be a rather harsh penalty against a Stortford tackler for failing to roll away, after opposition players had driven over him. DMP's scrumhalf reacted instantly, taking a quick tap and running into the heart of Stortford's defence. The home side appeared to have stemmed the momentum with some aggressive defence, but DMP kept up the pressure and got round the outside of the rush defence to put Josh Ree into space and the fullback sprinted in for a try after only 2 minutes, with Harry Read adding the conversion. Stortford bounced straight back and managed to stretch the visitors' defence through numerous phases, creating room out wide, which Dan Powell exploited ruthlessly, beating three defenders down the tramlines to touch down in the corner. David Hayes added an excellent conversion to level the scores. Stortford had the better of possession and territory for the rest of the half, but struggled to finish moves off and DMP looked threatening on occasions, when breaking out of defence. Indeed, but for two tremendous last-ditch cover tackles form Austin Pope and Tom Mills the visitors would have had two more tries. It was the home side, however, that broke the deadlock after 20 minutes, when Tristan Smith touched down, off the back of a driving maul from a 5 metre lineout. Hayes added the extras and despite late pressure on their line, Stortford were able to go into the break 7 points ahead.
The second half started scrappily, but Stortford won a penalty at a dominant scrum inside DMP's 22 and Isaac Bell went over for a try at the back of a maul from the resultant 5m lineout with 46 minutes gone. Hayes missed a relatively straightforward conversion, but made no such mistake, when Chris Bolton and Josh Stannard added tries after 51 and 71 minutes, stretching the lead to 26 points. The first came from a poor cross kick from DMP, looking desperately to break out of their 22, managing only to find Alex Gilham, who beat the first tackle and set his scrumhalf clear to the line. The second also came from an opposition mistake, as Stannard seized on a handling error 30 metres out from the try line to canter over untouched. Though the game was already lost, the visitors battled on and used newfound scrum dominance, after Stortford's man of the match, Toby Hill had limped off the field, to exert concerted pressure on the home team. This resulted in an increase in the already fairly high level of penalties and a yellow card for Harrison Langworthy after 72 minutes. DMP took full advantage, pushing the home side back into their 22 and scoring two consolation tries. Ironically, given the visitors' strong commitment to expansive rugby, both came from 5m lineout mauls, with front rows, Alfie Barron and Max Fraine the scorers after 73 and 82 minutes.
