BSRFC Women’s XV vice-captain, Yasmin Knott, interviews two of our newest players: Hannah Stoner and Chloe Arthur

YK: Why did you decide to start playing Rugby?

HS: It all started with my company, MCB Financial Services, sponsoring the Men's 1XV this season. I came along to the sponsors' evening in August and met some of the ladies who somewhat twisted my arm to come and train with them a few days later, having never played before I was a little apprehensive, but I turned up and fell in love with the game and haven’t looked back!

CA: I started playing because I was looking for a way to get active and, at the same time, meet new people. Rugby seemed like the perfect blend of physical challenge and social opportunity, giving me a chance to improve my fitness and make new friends in a new area.

YK: What has been your highlight of the season so far?

HS: Walking out on the pitch for my first game against Aylesbury. I got the same buzz I used to get as a kid playing football, but now being in my 30s with my parents still on the sidelines alongside my partner and my children was just something else.

CA: The highlight for me was attending training after a match win and the buzz that followed it. The sense of unity and camaraderie was special and reminded me of why I wanted to get back into a team sport. It felt (as a newbie) that all the training sessions, discussions and support that had been given to each other leading up to the match is what created that win and reminded me that unity is a great strength!

YK: What has been your favourite part so far about BSRFC?

HS: Being part of another family is really something everyone at BSRFC should be proud of! For anybody thinking of joining, they should. It’s a really special place and somewhere my whole family love to be!

CA: My favourite part has been the welcoming atmosphere. I have been taken in with open arms despite knowing very little about rugby. No question is a silly question, and everyone just wants to help and to make me feel welcome. BSRFC is an inclusive and nurturing environment so no matter your level come and join us!

Fancy giving the game a go?
