We welcomed 4 x new members this week from absolute beginners to some players with lots of TOUCH experience. Everyone slotted in and played competitive games, the experienced players really lifted everyone’s game, while the new players picked up the game really quickly and with a bit of assistance slotted into the teams and contributed from early on. We even had an experienced Ref who made what is a difficult job seem easy too.

It was hot and humid and the gnats were out in vengeance – meaning if you stopped you got bitten and we only had 1 sub per team it meant everyone was ‘putting it in’. The smiles and eagerness of everyone showed and we really enjoyed the night but we did call it early because …..actually there was no reason, but the bar was open.
Welcome to Christy (a recruit from the Carnival) who enjoyed it so much he is coming back with his wife, Kate, next week. Ultra super sub of the night was Christy’s son Seth (aged 9) who came on as a late late sub (just before his bedtime) and scored two amazing tries. When Kate shouted ‘right time for bed’ Nick Clayton turned to go, only to be reminded that his Mum said he could play out late tonight, as he had being extra good at the weekend and made his bed all on his own.
Wally of the night was claimed early – in fact in the first run of the first game, with no one near him, with a nice dry ball, Charlie wasn’t attending to his core skills, and managed to launch the ball high into the air – we don’t know what game he thought he was playing but the consensus was American football. It is so nice to see someone really committing to winning this honour so early on. He has really made it his own and it will be difficult for anyone to wrench his steely grip from it – although if it was rugby ball shaped..........
The elite squad are playing at the prestigious Saracens TOUCH festival on Sat 4th July, so this is their last training session. So at training they are going to play as a team against the rest of us – so we have to step up our game so they can work on some team tactics.
Wed 8pm – see you there.
