A night of team work, superbly helped by good communication

We changed the structure a little in playing 20 min ‘halfs’, rolling subs = fast flowing game, pushing everyone’s fitness.

We started with a dummy half ‘step-over’ drill pushing a defence line. This was a high intensity drill that everyone brought into the games.

The first try was a thing of beauty with Adam breaking down the wing and everyone holding their breath to see if he managed to hold onto the ball until the bitter end – he did, thereby relinquishing his ‘wally’ crown. The 20 mins games with rolling subs meant that the intensity was high throughout the whole evening, there were great moves by Red and Orange teams. Red’s tended to keep splitting with team spread across the whole pitch, it meant their defence was strong but attack was not as effective as it could have been. Oranges drift defence was well executed, attack was good with players looping around attacking the margins but time after time Oranges made simple handling errors giving possession away.

After each 20 min we stopped to discuss our game play and tactics and how we could improve, taking the suggestions into the next session.

Welcome to Kieran who despite never having played touch before turned on the gas on the wing and at his second attempt ran in a beautiful try – although I don’t remember him buying a jug to celebrate….

We are definitely improving week on week, every session is great fun and fantastic fitness. What other activity will drive your intensity for 1.5 hours and being disappointed when the light fades that you can’t carry on.

Please help at the Carnival stand this week, even if it is just for an hour to promote our Touch group, this is a great opportunity to recruit new players.

We have another session next week then Upminster on the 28th – please confirm your availability for the 28th via Doodle.
