Welcome back to Royston for a friendly training session and then some matches. Thanks to all the Stortford players who volunteered to Ref – this really makes the games playable. Big thanks to Adam who turned up with an injured finger and reffed all night, although we all know he was just trying to avoid Wally of the night - a prize he has very much made his own.
Stortford game structure and defence were superior to Royston so try scoring opportunities were minimised, this made the play in the centre of the park more crucial to try to make space ‘somewhere’. Both sides managed to squander chances in abundance with a mixture of poor decisions, awareness and poor passes so multiple turnovers per game. With the turnovers came frustration and competitiveness to try to gain an advantage, making fantastic games and a real passion coming out on both sides.
The difference really was fitness and to be frank, youth, as Royston had a couple of young players who managed to step and squeeze themselves through the smallest gaps and then ‘gas-it’ to the line. Oh to be young again.
Many thanks to Royston, we always enjoy their visit and the amount of bodies and noise in the bar afterwards confirmed their enjoyment too.
We have our stand at Carnival this week to promote TOUCH, then Upminster tournament on 28th June.
