HERTS U18's Plate Disappointment !

The host’s kickoff today was chased down menacingly by OA’s – only to result in an early tackle off the ball on Nick Lewis, giving a penalty to Stortford. Despite a strong attacking start from the blues, we were unable to land any points on the opposition until the second half. However, some very promising plays unfolded in the first 35 minutes, including some winding runs from Benjy Furrer and a couple of brilliant attacking kicks from Cam Pope.

Although the boys were unable to score in the first half, their heads never dropped and there were a few very notable defensive performances from David Townsend and Conor Langan, who made an enormous try saving tackle on the oppositions number 14.

After a tough first half of the game, the boys were given 3 areas to focus on: Defensive Line Speed, Support Play and Communication. As the second half began, an early try from Ryan Cox helped to raise the heads of the rest of the blues team, followed by a conversion from Tom Whirledge. The second half consisted of much more fluent rugby from the squad, with Cam Pope once again showing his skills with the ball, putting in some lengthy passes to find his teammates accurately.

As the half continued, Stortford kept their wits about them and managed to find another 5 points in the form of a try from Carn Richards-Farr, a talented U16 player showing some real power and aggression on a pitch surrounded by older players. A late try from Old Albanian’s finished the game off for us, the final score being 43-12 to the hosts. A tough game for Bishop’s Stortford, however an impressive performance in the second half showed the team they were able to remain positive in a challenging scenario.
