On a sunny September afternoon, the Bishop’s Stortford Ladies kicked off their first match of the new season against arguably one of their toughest opponents in their new league.
In the opening minutes, a worked move enabled number 13, Raquel Obama-Frades to sprint down the wing for a fantastic try. Captain, Georgia Read, converted in great style, launching the ball over the outer fencing and into the nearby road.
Beccehamian Ladies retaliated with a quick play and equalised. Committed tackling by 10 and 12, Alex and Mia, kept Stortford very much in the game.
The match continued at a high level for the remainder of the first half and was end-to-end action with further tries from Obama-Frades and Read to break at half-time with a score of 24-17.
The Beccehamian Ladies’ forwards provided a strong powerhouse, which the BSRFC Ladies more than matched in the scrums.
In the second half, injuries to full back, Kate Hawkins, and prop, Carleigh LaLonge, meant that adjustments were made and each side played 13.
The game continued at full pace with a majority of the play in the middle of the pitch. Both sides played with a fierce passion and determination to win, making for exciting gameplay. Stunning tackles by Emily Fellowes-Prynne and Jemma Goddard kept BSRFC Ladies very much in the hunt for the win.
A special mention to the four new players who donned the BSRFC kit in their first ever league match:
Carrie Moore
Emily Fellowes-Prynne
Gemma Menzies
Mia Richey
The score at the final whistle didn’t reflect the balance of play with BSRFC Ladies conceding 50-29.

A great match played well within the spirit of the game, the Ladies look forward to welcoming Beccehamian Ladies to Silver Leys for the return leg.

On Sunday 15th September, BSRFC Ladies take on Harlow in their first home match of the season (KO 2pm).
